StarBid — Privacy Policy

StarBid ("StarBid", "we", "us") is a companion app that lets authorised dealer customers view live vehicle auctions, track saved lots, place bids, and manage invoices through their dealer's account. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and your choices. It applies to the StarBid iOS application.

1. Information we collect

• Access code & account data. You sign in with a 12‚Äëcharacter access code provided by your dealer. We use it to authenticate your device and load the accounts, bids, invoices, and notifications associated with your dealer relationship.
• Device identifier. A random, app‚Äëgenerated device fingerprint is created and stored securely on your device (iOS Keychain) to keep you signed in and to bind your session. It does not identify you personally and is not shared for advertising.
• Technical information. App version and platform (e.g. "iOS") are sent with requests so we can keep the app compatible and secure.
• Usage & transaction data. Bids you place, lots you save, and invoices/payments you view are processed through our backend to provide the service.
• Push notification token. If you enable notifications, a push token is used to alert you about live lots, bid status, and invoices. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
• Session cookies. When browsing the in‚Äëapp Vehicle Finder or viewing invoice PDFs, standard session cookies are used to display that content.

The app does not collect your location, contacts, photos, or microphone data, and does not use third‚Äëparty advertising or tracking SDKs.

2. Face ID / biometrics

If you enable biometric protection, Face ID is used solely to unlock the app on your device. Biometric data is handled entirely by iOS and never leaves your device or reaches our servers.

3. How we use information

• To authenticate your device and provide the auction, bidding, invoice, and notification features.
• To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and maintain app compatibility.
• To send you operational notifications you have opted into.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. How information is shared

Your bidding activity is carried out through your dealer's connected auction‚Äëplatform accounts (such as IAAI and Copart) in order to place bids and retrieve lot and invoice data on your behalf. We share information with service providers only as needed to operate the app (e.g. hosting, and Apple Push Notification service for notifications). We may disclose information if required by law.

5. Data storage & security

Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS (TLS). Authentication tokens and your device fingerprint are stored in the iOS Keychain. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information.

6. Data retention

We retain account, bid, and invoice data for as long as your dealer relationship is active and as needed to comply with legal and accounting obligations. You can request deletion of your data as described below; note that some records tied to completed auction transactions may be retained where the law requires.

7. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you may withdraw from notifications at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. If you believe your data has been mishandled, you may also contact your local data protection authority.

8. Children

StarBid is a business tool intended for authorised dealer customers and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, communicated in‚Äëapp.
